Originally shared with GMVEMSC member agencies on June 9, 2021.

Phyllis Harover retired after 43 years of service. She started as a charge nurse/supervisor at Sycamore Medical Center on night shift in the ED when its doors opened in 1978, and went on to teach paramedic classes at Sinclair and Butler Tech, work as a pharmaceutical rep, and serve as an assistant vice president of nursing and nurse practitioner across the network’s emergency departments.

When interviewed for the Leader’s Choice Award, Phyllis said: “They won’t remember me 50 years from now, but they’ll remember what we stood for. It’s not about the individual person; it’s about what we collectively stand for when we care for patients.”

Phyllis’ impact on the profession of nursing will not be forgotten.
